Get Tips for Making Cake Pops

Cake Pop How-To
  1. Bake your favorite cake recipe.
  2. Allow cake to cool completely.
  3. Break the cake into crumbs (either by hand, with a fork or your kitchen aid with the paddle attachment.
  4. Mix about 1 cup frosting into crumbs. (You can really play with flavors at this point with cake flavors, frostings and add ins (chocolate chips, fruits, crumbled cookies).
  5. Roll into small balls 11/2 – 2 in. (I use a melon scoop).
  6. Refrigerate approximately 1 hour (to allow the frosting to set).
  7. Dip a sucker stick about 1/2 in into melted chocolate (chocolate melts, candy coating (Wilton’s, Merken’s, Make ‘N Mold candy wafer and insert into the rolled ball about 1/2-3/4 inch.
  8. Allow chocolate to set (approximately 5 minutes in the refrigerator).
  9. Dip cake pop into melted chocolate to completely cover (tap stick or hand holding stick to get excess chocolate off).
  10. Set stick in stand or styrofoam to allow to dry. After think of candies or fun edible objects that you can use to “create” your imagination. (m&m for a nose or ear, chocolate chips for ears, coconut for hair. Your imagination is your only limit.
Here’s one final tip from Kay: My favorite thing this time of the year is to make zucchini bread (from all the abundance from the harvest) and using the same steps blend with cream cheese frosting to make “cake balls.” They taste wonderful!
